ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University's Professor of Voice/Opera, Darci Bultema, is set to captivate audiences with an upcoming recital featuring guest pianists Michael Ching and Philip Everingham.
The recital, titled "Love Lost/Love Found," will be held on Sunday, April 7, at 3 p.m. in Krikac Auditorium. "Love Lost/Love Found" promises to take the audience on an emotional journey, exploring the complex feelings surrounding the end of a deep affair between two people and the unique bond between women and horses. The carefully curated music delves into the emotions of lost love, showcasing the works of Catalan and Portuguese composers. Highlights include selections from Joaquim Serra's "Lyriques amorosas," Villa-Lobos' "Floras do Amazonas," and the evocative "Charmes" by Frederic Mompou.
A special feature of the recital is the world premiere of Michael Ching's "The Bond Between: Six Songs About Women and Horses." Commissioned by Darci Bultema with generous support from Northern State University, these songs are a testament to the personal reflections and dedication Bultema has to her own horse, James Blond, as well as other horsewomen and their equine companions.
