  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m., the Northern State University Music Department will present a jazz concert featuring Northern’s 1 p.m. Jazz Ensemble, directed by Fritz Hemke, and 2 p.m. Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Grant Manhart. The concert will take place in the Jewett Theater at the Johnson Fine Arts Center. The theme of the evening is “A Harvest of Jazz.”

    The 1 p.m. Jazz Combo will perform selections such as “Funky Cha-Cha” by Arturo Sandoval, “Monte Carlo” by Bob Turner, and “Peter Gunn” by Henry Mancini, among others.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D.?– The winners of Northern State University’s 2024 Idea Pitch Competition have been announced, with three students taking home top prizes for their entrepreneurial ideas. The competition, held on Oct. 17 in the Jewett Regional Science Center lobby, was sponsored by the Aberdeen Development Corporation.

    1. Sam Tremelling, majoring in business administration, took first place and a prize of $500 for his app idea, Global Athlete Network. Tremelling also received a $50 People’s Choice award for Greatest Need.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Shelby Boettner, DNP, RN, an assistant professor at Northern State University, has been named District IV Nurse of the Year by the South Dakota Nurses Association (SDNA). Boettner received this award during the SDNA’s annual convention in Yankton, which took place on October 6-7, 2024.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D.?– Six finalists will compete for cash prizes as they pitch their business ideas Shark Tank-style at Northern State University’s annual Idea Pitch competition on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Jewett Regional Science Center lobby.

    The event, which is free and open to the public, will showcase innovative ideas from Northern students and provide an opportunity for the audience to help decide the winners of three People’s Choice awards.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s annual Gypsy Day Parade took place on Saturday, Oct. 5, drawing students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to downtown Aberdeen, despite the chilly, windy weather.

  • Aberdeen, S.D. – Dr. Anna Schwan, dean of the Millicent Atkins School of Education at Northern State University, has been honored by the Valley City State University Alumni Association with the Certificate of Merit award.
