Our master's degree in sport performance and leadership prepares you for coaching, human performance, and sports administration related careers depending on your track.

Each track contains relevant course work and internship/research experiences that ensure coursework can be related to the real world of sport and athletics. Whether working with intercollegiate or professional Sports teams or leading athletic programs in either educational or private settings, the SPL program is designed to give candidates the breadth and depth of knowledge necessary for success.

Note: Major Curriculum changes anticipated to be in place Fall 2025. The proposed changes will offer four distinct tracks—strength and conditioning, athletic coaching, sports administration, and exercise physiology/biomechanics—preparing candidates for diverse career paths.

Unique Experiences as a Graduate Assistant

Our faculty are dedicated to helping students succeed in and out of the classroom. Students in this program are also often graduate assistants in NSU’s athletics programs. These unique experiences help many hone and develop the skills needed to secure job placements after graduation.

In addition to graduate assistantships, you will participate in a capstone experience through internships or a research project. Our faculty will work with you to identify internship or research opportunities that match your career and professional interests. 

Sports Management Pathway

The Sports Management track is designed for student who wish to fulfill a career in the following but not limited to areas of interest; working with intercollegiate or professional sports teams in a sports management role, lead athletic programs in educational, private, or professional settings (athletic director), sports camp director, youth sports coordinator, or gameday/events coordinator.

Strength and Conditioning Pathway

This track is designed for students wishing to pursue a career as a strength and conditioning coach in various settings, including secondary schools, colleges, professional programs, and private settings. This program focuses on developing the skills and knowledge necessary for creating effective training programs that enhance athletic performance.  You'll also refine your coaching abilities for program implementation.

Cutting Edge Human Performance and Biomechanics Lab

As a student in the sport performance and leadership program, you'll have access to the Nora Staael Evert Human Performance Lab. This state-of-the-art biomechanics lab serve a crucial research facilities for faculty and NSU students. You'll benefit significantly by gaining hands-on experience with the lab's equipment as part of your curriculum.
